The most auspicious night of the year, this incalculably ancient pre-spring festival invokes the blessings of Shiva for both worldly success and liberation. It is said that if one can stay awake all night long, one will obtain the darshan of Shiva. To worship for even one watch of the night will bestow immense benefit.
5:30 - 8:30 pm: First Watch - Aum Tryambakam homa and bathing of shiva lingam with water. We will do three rounds of 108 healing mantras for personal and planetary healing
8:30 - 9:00 pm:Light Supper (no grains or beans)
9 pm to Midnight: Second Watch - Storytelling by Alakananda Ma, kirtan, reading of Shiva poetry and bathing of the lingam with panchamrit
Midnight: Chai and herbal tea will be served
12:30 - 3:00 am: Third Watch - More story, song and poetry as we continue to bathe the lingam in increasing waves of ecstasy
3:00 am: Tea Break
3:45 - 7:00 am: Fourth Watch - We continue bathing the lingam accompanied by song, story and poetry and conclude our worship with sunrise agnihotra, a brief and uplifting fire ceremony
What to Bring
White flowers, a monetary donation, your devotion and intention, heart and voice. Bathe before the ceremony if possible and wear fresh clothes, white if possible.
